With the fruit trees in full bloom, it is the perfect time of year to use up your extra fruit and make some healthy, delicious home made jam, and actually it’s easier than you might think, and a great activity to get the kids involved in.
Here is Our Naturopath, Genya Fleischer‘s home grown home made jam recipe. Enjoy!
- 1kg peeled, cored and sliced pear
- 2/3 kg sugar
- 2 vanilla sticks sliced centrally
Cook together on a medium heat, continue stirring and bring to boil. Add 2 peeled, sliced but not cored Granny Smith apples. Keep boiling and stirring until the fruit is soft and the jam thickens. Pour the hot mixture into your sterilized jars.
If you are using old jars, wash in warm soapy water, then place in hot oven (200 degrees Celcius) for 10-15 mins. Pour the hot mixture straight in, and once the lid is on turn the jar upside down to seal.
