Thanks to our Counsellor, Naomi Rubinstein, for the following blog.
As a couples therapist I too keep learning and trying to improve on my own relationships and sometimes it helps to have something or someone bring to the surface what you already know.
Having just read The Seven-Day Love Prescription by the Gottmans, I was inspired by the line: “Love is a practice, more than a feeling, it’s an action.”
Relationships need attention!
According to John Gottman:
“The difference between Masters of relationships and disasters of relationships is that the Masters make an effort even when things are good”.
So,
The relationship building habit for each day for 7 consecutive days are as follows:
DAY 1: Make contact
DAY 2: Ask a big question
DAY 3: Say thank you
DAY 4: Give a real compliment
DAY 5: Ask for what you need
DAY 6: Reach out and touch
DAY 7: Declare a date night
Stay tuned for a short exploration of each habit.
It’s never too late to start.
